In the course of a hot afternoon, I went from being a spoiled, indulged boy of privilege to a motherless child with a father in declining health. It was June, 1975 and I was 12.
Later that summer, trapped in a real-life horror movie, I stood in the barnyard of my Uncle's farm, raised my fist in the air (I had been reading GONE WITH THE WIND) and vowed as God as my witness, I'd get to Hollywood, eat as much food as I wanted, have nice clothing that actually fit, do as I pleased, live a life of excitement and adventure and damn anyone who got in my way.
That vow would be answered, and the Universe has been laughing at me ever since.
This blog may appear to be many things: an exercise in navel-gazing, stories so far out they can't be real (but I assure you they are) or, how I see it, one person's continuing journey in life. If you are entertained, great. If you are educated, then this writer has done his job.
Many of the subjects explored here, while written as trivial, should not be trivialized. This author is not looking to preach, nor seek pity.
My journey is, at the end of the day, a personal one, as is everyone's. We merely 'guest star' in the movie of each other's lives. I hope yours is as much of an adventure as mine is.
